People love their pets, no doubt. Our animal companions are precious to us, like family members, and so we often go to great lengths to make them comfortable and at home. There is some bickering in the eco-friendly community as to how responsible it may or may not be to host more than one pet. Some people seem to be the equivalent of Prohibition ear teetotalers where pets are concerned, while others believe it is our responsibility to care for domesticated animals and to provide for their needs. Who knows which position is more green or Earth friendly? Of course, no one. So today, we shall sally forth as though ownership of pets is good for the planet, rather than bad.

Pets bring happiness to humans through their loyalty and companionship, and we bring happiness to them in the form of delicious treats, expensive pet beds, and trips to the doggy salon. Do American animal lovers take it too far, though? I have friends in Virginia who take their two Shih-Tzus to an exclusive pet resort whenever they go on vacation — one that reminds me of the movie “Hotel for Dogs.” What do you think about people’s treatment of their pets? Too far, or just purrrrfect? Check this out:

In an effort to reduce plastic wastes and toxins created when making plastic bottles, many people are cutting back on the amount of bottled water that they are drinking. This is a wonderful way for you and your house to start out on your green mission if you have not yet done so. One way to still get clean and pure drinking water in your home without having to worry about a whole home filtration system or something really expensive in your home is to get a water pitcher that has a built in filter feature. I have tried and tested three different pitchers so that you can determine which is the best for you and your family.

Atlantis Water Pitcher Brita 42412 – $22.99

This is a great pitcher for a household of one or two people. It is a little on the small size it seems, and it also takes quite a while to filter. It is not too long of a wait for it to filter, but definitely longer than I would like. We are in the habit of filling it after each use so that it will have time to filter and always be full. In my house all we drink is water, so we need to keep a lot on hand always. Overall it is a good pitcher especially considering the price.

Clear20 Water Filtration Pitcher - $23.99

This pitcher is 72 ounces, which is wonderful. The filter is very quick, as the whole thing fills in only about 35 seconds. Has a faucet connector that allows for the faster filtering that might not fit all types of sinks even though it is supposed to. The filter lasts the longest of the three, and it is my pick for the best pitcher to buy.

Oval Water Pitcher 2 Stage PUR CR-6000 – $19.99

This water pitcher is seven cups. Again, it is not as big as the Clear20 so right off the bat I know it isn’t the size I would like. Overall though it is not a bad buy. The handle is very comfortable especially in comparison with the Brita.

Of all three, I choose the Clear20 as my personal favorite, but any of the three will be a great help in keeping your carbon footprint down.

There is nothing that people like more than saving money without having to make great efforts. When you can save some cash by doing easy things you feel good overall. Many have often thought for quite some time now that doing the green thing and choosing to live an eco-friendly lifestyle actually costs them more money. That is really not the case though. In the end, when you and your family chose to take on the green and responsible lifestyle it will turn out to have saved you more money. Saving money by going green is something that I know I can definitely get behind. What about you? Are you ready to be more environmentally aware and keep some extra dough in your wallet? I think the best time is surely now. Goodness I even see all kinds of shows on Alaska direct tv that talk about how wonderful it is to live a green and sustaining lifestyle.

If you are in need of more examples and proof that being green can end up saving you some money then have a good look at the infographic below that I found over the weekend. I think you will see that going green is not just great for the environment, but for your pocketbook too. I love when something works out in more than one way, don’t you? So, let’s go green to help our earth and save some green!

Doing your part in helping the environment is actually very important to you, and that is fantastic. You probably already recycle and use a water bottle instead of plastic bottled water, and things of that nature. This is wonderful news indeed, but are you hurting your home and your environment by not cleaning “green?” That’s right there are helpful and useful ways that you can be green even when cleaning your home.

A green clean house starts with environmentally friendly and green cleaning products. Even some everyday house cleaning brands have lines of cleaning supplies that are good for the environment. Most of the supplies are created to be non-toxic and they are typically made from renewable resources. Most of them are also biodegradable. But if you’re a do-it-yourself type and unwilling to shell out the big bucks for greener supplies, then turn to vinegar and/or baking soda. Adding either of those substances to some warm water, and either of them can take on practically any cleaning task.

Create a sweet smelling home, naturally. Some of the best fragrances to clean your air and leave behind a sweet smell are natural things like cloves or cinnamon. Essential oils also give wonderful aromas and a little goes a long way. Boil some herbs or essential oils that tickle your smelling senses to send the smells throughout your home. Put a small amount of essential oil on your air ducts. When the air blows through, so does the smell.

Watch what you’re throwing away. When you throw away chemiclas and toxic cleaning products that you decide to quit using insede of your home, you do to do so with great care. If you throw away chemicals or pour them out, there is a possibility that they could end up in someone’s water supply. That is definitely not good. Typically towns and communities will have times where they will pick up toxic waste, or you can drop off toxic wastes. Either way, make sure it is properly disposed of.

Stay away from going to the dry cleaners. Most dry cleaners do not use greed methods for the services that they provide, and they still utilize perchloroethylene, a toxic chemical. This chemical happens to be quite toxic, and can cause issues. Find a cleaner that practices green cleaning too. No Dry Clean is a site that has a finder for dry cleaners who are environmentally friendly in your area.

Everyone’s doing it, going green that is. It seems like living an eco-friendly lifestyle is becoming easier and easier, and everyone is certainly getting on board. Many people have recently started recycling and even started to find options and ways to reduce their carbon footprint and energy usage. Your kitchen can even get on the green train, and not just with your new energy saving appliances, but all of the tools and accessories in your kitchen too. If you and your family are on a mission to help out mother earth, here are some things that will help you to get started.

Energy saving cookware – When you are looking for cookware for the kitchen, then look into cast iron. Cast iron will conduct heat and hold it longer therefore staying heated longer and saving you some cooking costs in the over or on the stove.

Recycled essentials – A great way to find environmentally friendly kitchen tools is to look for those that have been recycled. From reclaimed wood cutting boards to mixing bowls that are made from recycled bottles, you will probably be able to find all kinds of necessary kitchen tools that were once something totally different in their past life. You can even find glasses for entertaining that were created from recycled glass. There are just so many options.

Water filters and soda makers – One of the biggest ways that we contribute to waste and hurting the environment is all of the plastic bottles and the aluminum cans that we use on a daily basis. Look into getting a water filtration device for your sink or even a water filtering pitcher that you can keep refrigerated. If you and your family are fans of carbonated beverages, there are numerous types of water carbonators. These will add carbonation to any beverage that you would like.

Green supplies to clean – When you are stocking up on items that you will use to keep your kitchen nice and clean, do not forget that even then you can be green. There are many options when it comes to natural and safe cleaning products for the kitchen. There are all-purpose cleaners, surface cleaners, and glass cleaners, that are all made up of natural products that will not harm your family or your kitchen.

Summer is coming, and that means that a lot of people are considering where to go for their vacations. If you are one of these people, and you would like to take a vacation that will afford you the chance to bring home something more meaningful and fulfilling than some overpriced gift shop item, you should consider taking a volunteer vacation to help the environment.

A volunteer vacation is when a person takes their week or two vacations and puts it to good use to help a certain cause they believe in. With the busy day to day life of working, it is not always easy to volunteer and give back to the environment, but with a volunteer vacation, you can help in ways you normally aren’t able to. Volunteer vacations are becoming more popular with each passing year, and if you would like to dedicate your vacation this year to helping the environment, there are a variety of different organizations who can help you plan a vacation to help the earth.

If you would like to explore the scientific part of helping the environment, you should check out the excursions to help the earth that are provided by Earth watch. Earth watch is a global environmental organization that promotes the learning and development of scientific research that will help us to live in harmony with the earth. They offer a variety of volunteer missions you can take that will enable you to help learn vital information that is important to different endagered parts of the environment. Earth watch offers group programs, family programs, and programs that cater mainly to teens, and they serve a variety of different causes all around the world. Don’t worry about having a special skill because when you volunteer at Earth watch, they will teach you everything you need to know for your volunteer vacation. cableinternetbundles.com

Another organization that offers volunteer vacations to help the environment is the Sierra Club. The Sierra Club is the largest environmental organization in the U.S., and it offers a variety of trips that will enable you to spend your vacation giving back to the earth. They offer excursions both in the U.S. and abroad, and their trips usually involve a more hands on approach to helping the environment, such as cleaning forests. When you go on a wilderness excursion to help the environment with the Sierra Club, not only will you help the earth, but you will get to enjoy many outdoor activites like hiking, bike riding and kayaking. Just like Earth watch, the Sierra Club offers a variety of different trips that cater to different people, and no matter where you want to go to help the earth and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, the Sierra Club probably has an excursion planned that can take you there.

Saving the earth can be fun and easy when you dedicate your summer vacation to volunteering to help the environment. Earth watch and the Sierra Club are only 2 of the many different environmental organizations that provide excursions in the U.S. and around the world where you can make your summer vacation meaningful. Just go online and type in volunteer vacations, and you can find these and many other organizations that want to help you get more out of your days off this summer.

The Blue Suede Shoes are safe. Graceland is high and dry. Elvis won’t have to leave the building.
But there are hundreds of homes in Memphis and elsewhere that are flooded. There’s an unprecendented drought in Texas, and the southeast just had the worst tornado outbreak in history. What’s going on?

Much has been written about global warming, but global climate change is a more accurate term. topple track And man-made global climate change would be even better. Though it seems likely that the earth will continue to warm under the influence of greenhouse gases pumped into the atmosphere by everything from Pontiacs to power plants, the warming will not be uniform, and some areas might actually cool. Perhaps more important will be changes in precipitation patterns, which will have a huge effect on agriculture in the context of an increasingly hungry world.

The climate does sometimes change for natural reasons. When Chuck Berry sang “Roll over Beethoven and tell Tchaikivsky the news,” he was talking about rock and roll. But Beethoven might also have mentioned that the world he lived in was much colder than Tchaikovsky’s (in the 1800s)—or ours. The period around 1700 was marked by very cold temperatures—and, incidentally, very few sunspots, which is the suspected cause.

On a longer term basis, the earth is now in an interglacial period; the last glaciers began to recede about 20,000 years ago. The result has been a rise in sea level as the glaciers melted. In 20,000 years, sea level rose about 400 feet. But in the last 6,000 years the rise has been only about 5 feet, or approximately 1 inch per century. Contrast that to the change of sea level in the last century of about a foot. And the trend is accelerating. Some island nations of the Pacific are already resigned to inundation, and the most recent observations of arctic melting are quite alarming. Some scientists believe sea level could rise more than 10 feet by 2100.

Our prehistoric ancestors had little trouble with weather changes: they’d simply move, just like the animals that lived at the edge of the glacier. With no real belongings, prehistoric man could follow the natural resources—and the pleasant climate. That’s not so today. We’ve built cities, mansions, high-rise office buildings and power plants in the paths of hurricanes, tornadoes and tsunamis. And now we have to worry about rising sea level.

There are international efforts to control the emissions of greenhouse gases, but they have stalled. Developed nations insist on keeping a large percentage of their per capita emissions, while developing nations want a more equitable division. Given that the per capita emissions of the developing world are about one-tenth those of the developed nations, it seems as though atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases are destined to go higher, not lower. Just as the inhabitants of the Pacific island of Vanuatu have evacuated in the face of the rising sea, so might many coastal residents eventually have to move.
